9th November 02 - Bigland Tarn
At least it has stopped raining today.
An 8-mile walk starting on the River Levens estuary
at Greenodd along the Cumbria Coastal Way to Low Wood (close to Haverthwaite
where the stream railway still runs to Lakeside). Then climbing up through the
woods to Bigland Tarn and back via the old gunpowder works at Low Wood and along
the old disused railway track to the start.
Along the estuary | Through the woods on the banks of the River Levens |
Over Haverthwaite towards Coniston | |
Bigland Tarn | Old gunpowder works at Low Wood which produced the blasting powder for the nearby quarries and mines in the 18th and 19th centuries |
