29th August 2002 - Copper Load of this!
This 6 mile/1250ft walk (scramble would be more like it in parts!) starts in
Coniston and climbs through Coppermines Valley towards the Old Man of Coniston.
Once the high level Levers Waters is reached, the walk then descends through
Boulder Valley passing the Pudding Stone along the old Miners Track back to
Heathwaite and Coniston.
In 1830, over 1,000 men worked - and many died - in the copper mines. Mining ceased in 1890 and the area is now a veritable industrial archaeologist's treasure trove
