20th Feb. 04 - Gummer's How and Cartmell Fell
Probably the best walking weather EVER. Brilliant sun but cold.
Started with an ascent of Gummer's How (c1100ft). Then a 6 miler along Sow How
lane and its Tarn and up over Cartmell Fell. The views to the Pennines and
Morecambe Bay were awe-inspiring. Then back through Rankthorns Plantations to
Foxfield and a clamber through the thick woodland of Astley's Plantation
(probably shouldn't have been there - no paths - had to use my compass in the
end) to return to the car.
