25th March 19 - Thayetmyo

Steep climb up the river bank watching woman wash clothes in the river.
On Tuk Tuk to golf course. Then horse and cart to market.
Teppanyaki Dinner!

Woman washing clothes in river using stone. Taken from Scenic Aura
This could well have been her house
This is how we moored. Steep (and dusty) climb up and down the bank.
Planting rice in the paddy fields
Thayetmyo Golf Club is affiliated to St Andrews in Scotland. However membership fees here are $300/£225 and entitles you to play in St Andrews. Thayetmyo Golf Club fairways did leave something to be desired - like a blade of grass!
The Woman's Team won the Putting Competition
Horse & Cart ride to the village market
This hardware store caught my eye. Note squat toilets for sale!
The market in Thayetmyo was small but all the vegetables etc looked very fresh
New wooden shoes (clogs?) anyone?
These two novice Buddhist monks were giving their mother the contents of the collection bowl that day.
We were each given 1000 kyat (about 50p) and told in Burmese how to say what we should buy. So we had to go to each stallholder saying 'La Phat Chaut' without knowing that it was Green Tea. You get a lot for 50p but the stallholder who sold it to me seemed VERY happy!
We gave it to our horse & cart driver who seemed very grateful too!
Elizabeth had to buy 'Pay Nee Lay' - which turned out to be red lentils.
It was a really good idea as rather than us all wandering around the market without spending anything, the stallholders got 1000 kyat and the horseman got some provisions. It was fun too!
Back to Scenic Aura by Horse & Cart
Great seven course Teppanyaki Dinner (ie cooked Japanese style on a hot plate). A mix of good food and theatre!
