5th Sept 06 - Kusadasi/Ephesus (Turkey)
The main reason for coming to Kusadasi is to visit the city
of Ephesus - the best preserved ancient city in the world dating back to the 11C
BC.

Passing the Trajan Fountain |
Walking down the main street |

This is The Latrina. Ephesus had running fresh water and a sewage disposal system |
On Curetes Street. Basically a pedestrian shopping street. |

A reconstruction of the Temple of Artemis which was one of the Seven Wonders of the World |
This
is the Grand Theatre. To get an idea of the significance of this place, this is where Cleopatra spent her honeymoon. Ephesus was the centre of idolatry (They worshiped the Goddess Artemis) So when the disciple Paul came and lectured in this Grand Theatre that they should give up "false Gods" and turn to Jesus, he got the reception you can imagine. They threw him in jail. When released he wrote letters back to the people of Ephesus that had heard him speak. These were the Letters of Paul to Ephesians. The disciple John lived and died in Ephesus. And we stood on those self same marble slabs today |
On the way back we were "treated" to a carpet demonstration. We did not buy one... |
This sign took my eye... |
