31st Dec 10/1st Jan 11

On 31st Dec we were meant to be going on a catamaran to a glacier - but it broke down on the way! The New Year's Eve party with our new found friends was very good though. As a 'consolation' Silver Whisper stopped at the island of Isla de Chiloe, Chile on New Year's Day which was also very good.

At Laguna San Rafael where we were meant to go on the glacier excursion
Unfortunately an older Brazilian guest got taken ill (he died on the way to hospital) and had to be airlifted by a naval helicopter. He had treated all his family to this cruise and, in a way, it was probably not the worst way to go.
With our new found friends for NYE Dinner. From L to R Sandra, Bob, Beverley, Brian, Innes and Alec. Lovely people!
The Silver Whisper put on a very good New Year's Eve Party too!
Castro, Chile on the Isla de Chiloe
Castro and the district is famed for its 'Palafittes' or buildings built on stilts into the sea
Boats in the fishing village of Dalcahue
Crossing  to the island of Quinchao
Jesuit Church (1730) in Achao where we attended a service. It was full of baroque imagery.
We were treated to a display of typical Chilean music and dancing.
