28th Dec 10 - Ushuaia, Argentina
Good one for a pub quiz. What is the most southerly city in the world? Answer, Ushuaia. Indeed, this is where the world was meant to end and you would just fall off the edge if you went any further south. Ushuaia is now the port from which all the expedition ships for the Antarctic leave.
We went on a trek which turned out to be more of an adventure than we had bargained for.

An amazing beaver damn. I never realised they could build them this big! |
This is the point where it got a bit hairy. The guide went a different way back and decided to cross this wet bit. Quite a number of the party fell in as it was very deep. Eventually I shouted out to the guide 'Are you lost?" and eventually she admitted she was and burst into tears! We led the party up a steep cliff to safety. |
