27th Aug 10 - The Langdale Pikes
Perfect day for walking. Clear, dry (some sunny periods) and, above all, not too hot. We started at the Dungeon Ghyll, climbed to Stickle Tarn and then on (and on) to Pavey Arc and Harrison Stickle before descending though Dungeon Ghyll itself.
Tough walk. About 2600ft but, because of the up and down, over 5000ft of ascent. Very steep with lots of scrambling. But great views. Exhausted now!
Start of walk |
Valley views to Windermere as we climbed |
Stickle Tarn |
Typical scrambles up to Pavey Ark. |
Fabulous views over Stickle Tarn and beyond |
Dungeon Ghyll. Very steep drops from path (far left). |
We finally got to the last bit. Still not sure if walking up or walking down is worse. Both seemed exhausting today. Must be getting old! |
A well deserved drink at the Stickle Tavern |
