15th - 16th Oct 09 - Luxor and the Valley of the Kings
After disembarking at the very ugly industrial port of Safaga in Egypt, we made the painfully slow 4+ hr trip to Luxor. First stop, the Valley of the Kings where Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered. It was 43C - ie VERY hot!
Then to the Hatshepsut Temple, the Colossi of Memnon and Luxor Temple before a Son et Luminiere at the Karnak Temple. After an overnight in a hotel on the banks of the Nile, it was a visit to the Karnak Temple by day before another long return journey to rejoin the ship at Safaga.
No cameras were allowed in the Valley of the Kings. This is from Google Images! The Tombs were beautiful. You walked down long tunnels (you can see the entrances in the photo), all decorated with pictures and hieroglyphics, to reach the burial chambers. |

In both the Luxor and Karnak Temples, the columns were HUGE. Walking amongst them gave you a really awesome feeling. |

They might not have flushing toilets or piped water but EVERYONE had a mobile phone! Indeed reception was superb everywhere we went. |
