16th Aug 08 - Torver and the Coniston Steam Yacht
As it was overcast, we decided to do a lower level walk than that planned. Indeed, we decided to copy the last walk that Philip did on his last visit to the Lakes. To see Philip's pictures of the same walk Click here.
The walk is about 4.5 miles starting from Torver and climbing over Bull Haw Moss (very boggy!) then descending alongside Torver Beck.
We then went on the Coniston Steam Yacht
There has been so much rain that in several places the path was flooded. There are stepping stones here...about a foot under water! We had to make a major detour. |
Clouds hang over Dow Crag - which is pretty menacing at the best of times! |
Ruins at a discarded quarry |
Another quarry alongside the waterfalls of the Torver Beck |
I really like this picture of the tree growing at a crazy angle on top of the scree |

The furnace. It was incredibly quiet and smooth. Bring back steam!! |
