29th Sept 2002 - Fairfield
At 8.00am it was brilliant sunshine. 9.00am 'phoned the Weatherline. "Any mist will clear by 11.00am. Fine and dry day".
So we decided to climb Fairfield from Ambleside - up from Rydal Mount and along the horseshoe ridge and back along the other ridge via Sweden Bridge. About 9 miles and over 2800ft.
Hazy mist/cloud when we started. Then, as we climbed higher, it got worse and worse. Eventually, about a mile from the summit and at about 2500 ft, we couldn't see where we were going. A person returning from the top advised us to retrace out steps. We know there is a confusion of paths at the top and getting lost was NOT an option today!
So 6 hours later we got back to our car in Ambleside.
A bit depressing really. We ache from head to toe with no piccies to show for it!

Early on in the hazy sunshine At 1500ft . It then got even worse!
