20th July 07 - Honister Via Ferata

Something really different today. We went to the Honister Slate Mine which has just opened it Via Ferrata. Basically a guided and "attached" climb taking you through the slate mines right up to the top of Fleetwith Pike - c2150ft.
Takes about 2 hours and is really quite "strenuous". A lot of rock climbing and even more very steep ascents.

At the Start
Gatesgarthdale valley at the start
Do we have to go there?
The first of our trips through the tunnels of the slate mine
The first bridge on the via ferreta
Then it got quite tough!
One of the easy bits!
Almost at the top
At the summit of Fleetwith Pike - 2150ft
