13th - 27th April 04 - CENTRAL AMERICA
PART 3

Then, on the 23rd April it was time for our trip through the Panama Canal.

At dawn we left the Pacific and entered the Panama Canal via the first of three locks (Miraflores) up to the Gatun Lake. Then another three back down to the Caribbean Sea
Mechanical mules ensured that we (and the other ships) went through the locks with inches to spare
When we reached the Gatun Lake, we went on a small boat on the Chagres River. Crocodiles abounded!
Then on another rainforest walk with loads of animals
We had a great guide called Alexis. He was instructing us on how to survive if lost in the jungle with "101 things you can do with a bamboo". If all else fails, you can make yourself a hat!
In the Panama canal crossing the Continental Divide (between North and South America). 25,000 people died hacking away the 700ft high rock at this point.
Last stop was Grand Caymen
Farewell to the Voyager and a truly fantastic trip
