28th - 30th July 05 - Iceland

Arrived by air at Reykjavik on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday night, had the most superb lobster meal at the Lobster House. Best ever!
On Friday we went on the Golden Circle tour. This is the amazing waterfall at Gullfoss
You could get very wet standing here!

The volcanic pool at Kerio

The place is Geysir. This geysir is called Stokkur and it blows every five minutes or so.
Thingvellir - the original seat of Parliament in Iceland in AD930.
The church at Thingvellir
Techtonic plates. Amazing to think that Iceland is just like a teatray resting on  the Eurasian plate and American plate with a 5km gap in between which explains the geothermal waters..
On Saturday, we "did" Reykjavik before boarding the ship. This is the view from The Pearl - an enormous water tank which stores all the geothermally-heated water for delivery to the central heating systems in the houses below.
Hallgrimskirkja church. Shaped like a space shuttle.. With a statue of Leifur Eiriksson - the Viking who stopped on his way to discovering North America in cAD1000.
