29th Aug 10 - Aira Force and Gowbarrow Fell

Sunny but v windy. went to Aira Force on Ullswater. Climbed up alongside the waterfall and took the Permissive path (not marked on map) to Gowbarrow Fell. Then on to the most superb path that hugged the fellside (with massive drop!) and the most wonderful views of Ullswater. A gem of a walk! c 5.5m and around 1500ft of ascent.

Aira Force and High Force in full spate
The most wondrous views of Ullswater as we climbed - made even better by the heather being in full bloom..
On top of Gowbarrow Fell (c1500ft). It was v windy as you can see from Elizabeth's hair!
Now spied the other end of Ullswater. The path was then a delight. Sheer drop on one side but the most wondrous views of Ullswater for miles.
Yew Crag was our lunch spot. They really don't come any better!
Back to the NT car park where we started. (Yes, I know Eliz is facing the wrong way but I  made her turn around for the photo!)
