11th/12th Oct 09 - Port Said and Cairo

Disembarked at Port Said at start of Suez Canal. Met by police escort for 3hr trip into Cairo. Here we visited the Citadel and Mohamed Ali Mosque, the Hanging Church and Ben Ezra Synagogue - therefore covering most of the world's religions!

After checking into the magnificent Four Seasons hotel (amazing suite and view) we were taken on a private evening visit to the Egyptian Museum to see the Mummies and the treasures of Tutankhamun.

Following day we visited Sakkara and then onto the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx.

Then another long trip back to the ship which had moved overnight through the canal to Port Suez in the Red Sea. the trip was made longer by accidents, traffic and Egyptian bureaucracy. We finished with  a police escorted tender trip at night across the busy shipping lanes to our (fortunately) waiting ship
