14th Apr 09 - Coppermines at Coniston

No sun today. We started at Coniston and did the Coppermines route. Not my favourite scenery - too much scree and quarry slag. On a day like today, it seemed even more depressing.

A glimpse of Coniston on the way up
Miners Bridge as the Levers Water Beck tumbles down
Since we last passed this way they have constructed this small hydro electric system
Finally we scrambled up to Levers Water which was in the cloud and decidedly wet.
Boulder Valley - aptly named!
The view. Our route had taken us up one of the miners paths you can see to Levers Water which nestles between the two peaks you can see on the top LHS of the picture. This is on the way down through Boulder Valley.
