27th-30th November 2008 - Berlin with Mike & Mo

Weekend away in Berlin with Mike & Mo. stayed at the Kempinski Hotel Bristol (excellent and good room rate deal on the internet!).
Weather was freezing!

On the first day we did a guided walking tour of all the main sights in both East and West Berlin - about 5 hours.
Berliner Dom on Museum Island
The holocaust monument
The secret underground station - Unter den Linden. Closed until unification even though the tube trains continued to run through it.
Brandenburg Gate
Reichstag and its new dome designed by Sir Norman Foster
One of the last remaining bits of the Berlin Wall
The unique 'traffic light man' as used in East Berlin. The West Berliners liked it so much that it is now been installed in the Western bits of Berlin too!
Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche is a bombed out church left as a monument to the futility of war. On Kurfurstendamm - close to our hotel
Christ above the altar in Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche
Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche by night
The same view up Kurfurstendamm at night
Gendarmenmarkt 'one of Berlin's most beautiful squares'. Franzosischer Dom with the Christmas market in front
Enough Christmas decorations for a thousand trees
Christmas markets everywhere.
Potsdam is about a 30 minute drive from Berlin. This is the Schloss Sanssouci and the view from its terrace
Back in Berlin. Charlottenburg at dusk
Charlottenburg at night
In the Christmas market in front of Charlottenburg
Dinner in the Orangery of Charlottenburg
Performance in Charlottenburg of Mozart, Handel and Bach
