19th Aug 08 - Grisedale Tarn

Some days (well, most actually!) it rains whilst you are walking and the sun comes out the moment you return to the car. Today it was the other way around for once. There were dark menacing low clouds as we started the walk. But the higher we climbed, so they lifted until we were in sunshine at the top!

Then we descended and just made it to the car before the heavens opened (again). Great 4.5m/2000ft walk from the Travelers Rest pub up  either side of the Great Tongue to Seat Sandall and Grisedale Tarn.

View over Grasmere as we start
You can see the menacing black clouds
Almost there. The view back now includes Windermere
Grisedale Tarn and the cloud has almost lifted
On the way down now. Crossing the many streams and waterfalls was difficult as they were all in flood.
On the way down with Tongue Gill on the right
A look back up to Seat Sandall (left) and Fairfield (right) - now bathed in sunshine. Grisedale Tarn in the dip in between.
